Even though you drive me crazy sometimes, I’m thankful for each and every one of you. Love to you all.
A couple of plungers, several rolls of toilet paper, one big bottle of Stoli, a small vat of Keef’s dip and half of a penis cake later…we got the job done. Congrats, my dear, on surviving your Bachelorette Party.
One of my favorite grade school teachers passed away on November 13th. It’s a bit of a coincidence that it was Audra’s birthday that day…Audra is a grade school teacher too.
Miss Mayer was a special person and it’s hard to know that she isn’t in the world any longer. Here is her obit:
Mayer, Rosemarie Educator 74 Years Passed away Nov. 13, 2008
Our dear Rosie has left life’s classroom for the last time; she was truly a dedicated teacher of children for 42 seasons. She taught 1st and 2nd grade at St. Francis de Sales and St. Francis/St. James United schools, in her West 7th neighborhood. Because of her efforts, a thousand children received sound fundamental instruction of the 3 R’s and a moral base of right and wrong to guide them. A good teacher is like a candle — it consumes itself to light the way for others. Rosie was always a safe haven for her nieces, nephews and friends. Her accordion graced many a function, from German dancing to Shriners events, and brought good cheer to her classroom and family gatherings. Rosie had many a soul mate in the community of the School Sisters of Notre Dame-Mankato, and they, in turn, aided her when she needed assistance. Special thanks to the United Hospital Critical Care Unit staff for their efforts and kindness in Rosie’s last days of life. Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Julia Mayer, niece, Karla Haugen. Survived by sister, Geraldine (Patrick) Hoemke and Judith (Cliff) Haugen; nieces, Cathy & Khrista; nephews, Greg (Jane), Paul, Brian (Kim); great nieces, Rachel; great nephews, Joshua & Marshall; many loving friends. Member of the Minnesota Schuhplattlers and the Shriners Band. Memorials preferred. Mass of Christian Burial TUES 11:00 am at ST. FRANCIS DE SALES CATHOLIC CHURCH 650 Palace and Osceola. Visitation MON 4-8 pm at church and one hour prior to Mass. Inurnment Resurrection Cemetery. 651-224-2341
On Tuesday, October 28th, my head began to hurt. It was a whiny, dull headache I treated with a normal dose of Ibuprofen. By Wednesday at 3am, I had sharp pains in my head and neck. Lots more Ibuprofen and a little more sleep patched me back together. I was never able to completely shake it, though, and Thursday afternoon was rough too. That evening, I went to bed early and took Excedrine Migraine, which normally takes care of business.
However, on Friday (Halloween) morning, I awoke to the dull headache again. I had an important meeting that day from 8:30-10:30 with a client, so I popped some Ibuprofen and rushed out the door. Toward the end of that meeting, I had major throbbing in my temples. My team met for coffee afterward, but I could only stand it for a few minutes before I had to bow out. I called the Silver Fox and Adam to let them know I was headed home. I then called Amy to cancel my attendance at Ike’s for lunch, which we’d planned a couple weeks before. Alas, I couldn’t even savor the idea of a delicious Ike’s cheeseburger because the nausea had set in. Sorry to be so informative, but I nearly upchucked all over myself and the inside of my car on the 8-mile ride home. It was a very close call and quite scary.
I pulled into my garage and left everything in my car, even my purse. After locking up the garage, I entered the house, took more Excedrine, found my PJ’s, covered my head with a cool washcloth and a pillow and went to sleep for 4 hours. The pain was brutal. Upon waking up, I felt like I’d been run over. It took me some time to feel normal again, and that meant I wouldn’t be able to join my mom and sisters for the Halloween festivities. Instead, Adam and I watched a couple movies and between intermittent Trick or Treaters, snuggled on the couch. I slept for many many long hours that night.
Saturday morning, the dull headache was hanging around again. I took more drugs, laid low and it dissipated. On Sunday and Monday, I felt 100% better. Sunday morning, Adam and I put the GTO in storage for the winter, drove all over the southern ‘burbs, basked in the unseasonably warm weather and took in the exceptionally bright fall colors. Monday was busy but it was hyper-productive and a magnificent migraine-free day and night.
On Tuesday, the headache began to trickle into my day shortly after Adam and I voted. I was irritated, stressed at work and anxious to do nothing but sleep. And sleep I did! 8:30pm Tuesday night through 6:30am this morning, a total rarity for me. When I got up this morning, I noticed several pains on my right-hand side: a small portion of my scalp was severely sensitive to touch or movement, my (inner) throat was sore, my (inner) ear was throbbing, my lower jaw hurt and of course, I had a dull headache. ARGH!
So, I’m not completely sure of what’s going on, but I don’t like it.
