Summa Summa Summatime
At the moment, I’m flying over the Rocky Mountains on my way home from LA. It appears I lost another month in updating this page, but this particular update is brought you by our friends at Delta Airlines and GoGo Inflight Internet.
The month of May was busier than most this year. Adam and I were both tied up at work more than usual and it felt like I barely saw him. That coupled with the awful weather all month created Heather The Grouch.
On the Wednesday before Memorial Day, I booked 2 tickets to Orlando. Orlando wouldn’t have been my first choice, but the fares were cheap and the temps were high. We stayed at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes, a gorgeous hotel with spectacular pools. We drove out to Port Orange, where our cousins Seth & Emma and their kids live. I love these people, and I so wish they still lived in Minneapolis. We had so much fun (and uh, drinks) that we ended up staying the night at their house. They (+ the Florida sun) really made our trip. All of us went to a flea market, where I bought a bamboo wind chime with a large wooden stripey cat sitting on top of it. I named him “Carlitos” and I think of the Crocketts whenever I look at him.
Let’s see…what else. Oh, Audra is doing VERY well. She’s getting one of those amazing 3D ultrasounds tomorrow and I can’t wait to see it! I’m getting more and more anxious to meet my new niece, and I’m so relieved for my sister that things have turned around. She and my mom have been working on Chloe’s room and we have a date booked for her shower. I’m smiling just thinking about it.
So I’m glad May is over and delighted that we’ve moved into June. All week in LA, I kept hearing people talk about the “June gloom”, because apparently it’s unusually cloudy in LA in June. Hell, in Minneapolis I think we’d have to invoke gloom with November, January, February, March, April, May… Despite the “gloom” I’m happy to report extremely productive meetings in LA. It’s easy to forget what a difference it makes when you meet people in person, and this trip was just more proof of that. Other highlights: I had dinner with my high school friend, Mike, at the coolest restaurant I’ve ever been to: The Bazaar. If you’re ever in LA – GO THERE. I now have a whole new appreciation for (and understanding of) “molecular gastronomy.” I also went to San Diego for the first time in my life. I didn’t have a lot of time there, and what time I did have was spent mostly in meetings, but it was fun to see it.
Looking forward, I have a rare free weekend coming up. We were planning to get together in Duluth with BWEM, but they needed to reschedule. I now plan to work on photos and do some cleaning and lounging. And maybe a little work, and who knows what else.
